Ellie Goes on a Road Trip

I'm going to warn you that this post will be picture heavy.  We had so much fun and Ellie did so well I had to share more than just one or two.  I took Ellie along with my two hounds on a road trip this past weekend and she did fabulous.  She makes the perfect traveling companion.  We went to Southland Greyhound Park in West Memphis, Arkansas for the annual reunion and had a great time.

Ellie slept pretty much the almost four hours it took to get there.  She woke up to look around when I said "hey guys, we're in Arkansas!!!!!"  (Everyone is muzzled as a precaution.  At that point these hounds had only known each other for a couple of days).

She has not been allowed on the human beds at our house and has been okay with that (I discourage it for fosters in case their forever family decides they'd rather the hounds sleep on the hound beds), but after sniffing around the hotel room for about 30 seconds, she decided this was her spot.  As I knew she would be left alone in the room and it was only for this weekend, I let it slide.

I went to some of the kennels at the track while I was there and left the hounds alone for a few hours.  They got along wonderfully and did just fine being left alone in the hotel room.  Here are the happy hounds I returned to.

Here's a shot of Ellie riding around West Memphis with me.

And sweet Ellie after a very long day.

We are all just in love with this sweet little girl - she has been a joy to foster.  Look for even more to come about her soon!

She plays catch

I found the rubber squeaky foot in the yard and tossed it and she went right after it and brought it back to me. So of course I threw it again and she brought it back again. She is tireless, she will play catch as long as I can throw it. She loves the stuffies. She roaches. She's OK on the wood floor. I only have 3 steps and she hesitates then rushes up them. Riding in the car is the tricky part. I've only had her out a couple of times and have had to pick her up and put her in, and she doesnt want to settle down. There is really nothing bad to say about her.

What a doll

Ellie is a beautiful happy girl. She didn't act like she had never been in a home before and looking at her younger pictures I think maybe she was. She's very affectionate and wants to hug but we are discouraging that. She would love to be invited on the bed. She has jumped up a few times but we are discouraging that also. She thinks she should be allowed to eat people food. She would be an exceptional lap dog, she will stand and let you pet her as long as you like, I give up before she does.
She is playing with Maggie (non-grey) but not with Birdie (grey) and Birdie is trying hard to play with her. She doesnt like being crated but will go in with a push and once in she settles down. The first 3 nights she was whining but a couple sprays of water stopped that. She has rubbed some of the black off her nose while being crated. She loves the stuffies and she found the squeaky foot tonight and was running around the yard with that. You need to see this girl in person, the pictures don't show how exceptionally gorgeous she is.

Puppy Pictures

Most of us aren't lucky enough to have puppy pictures of our hounds, so these are special.  Ellie's racing owner was kind enough to send them to us.  Enjoy!
